To get a UK private pilot licence you pass nine PPL theory exams, each multiple choice with a 75% pass mark, sat on a computer at your flying school through the CAA's e-Exams system. Your flying school books each exam for you once they are happy you are ready. You have 18 months from the end of the month of your first attempt to pass all nine, and four attempts at each exam.
